3 WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?

We chose Vertigo as our distribution company as explained in the Prezi below. We also did research on the way other distribution companies distribute their films.

Tortoise in Love
The story behind the distribution is a very lucky one. It all started when Guy Browning decided that the village of Kingston Bagpuize should make a romantic comedy film. Approximately 400 villagers volunteered to help makes his dream a reality.

All of the cast and crew stayed with the villagers the local Women’s Institute catered and helped to gather props, were the make-up artists etc.

The film was funded by the BFI Print, advertising funds and by local fundraisers. Guy Browning had to turn to the BFI to help distribute this film because no other distributor wanted to help because of the lack of ‘big name celebrities and the guaranteed profit’. This was strange because of the enormously high amount of media attention it was getting. but for big distributors to take a risk like this could mean losing a lot of money and they didn’t want to take the chance.

The end result in the race to get the film publicly released was a big Leicester Square premiere where the cast and crew arrived in tractors. Also on the same night the film was released in hundreds of village town halls all over the country.

The BFI were the ones that made the biggest voluntary donation in the creation of this film as without them Tortoise in Love would not have become a reality and if they were able to complete it without their funds they certainly wouldn’t have been able to get it out to their target audience.
